Nature on the Board
Giving Nature a Voice and a Vote
Every decision a business makes has some impact upon Nature — but Nature’s had no say on those decisions. Until now…
Nature on the Board is a move to implement the Rights of Nature within organisations, recognising Nature as the major stakeholder it so clearly is. It’s a story that’s received global attention — but it’s not the attention that matters. It’s about creating a more equitable system that helps protect and preserve the natural world of which we’re all a part.
About us
In 2022, Faith In Nature became the first company in the world to make Nature a director — granting a voice and a vote to the natural world on all its business decisions.
We’re Simeon Rose and Anne Hopkins— the creative directors of Faith In Nature who helped create that move. Our backgrounds are not in sustainability, law or governance — but in advertising and the creative industries. We use those creative skills to unlock ways of bringing a Nature-centric lens to everyday operations.
We continue to advocate for other organisations to do the same. Most recently, we worked with the National Infrastructure Commission for Wales in helping them appoint a Nature Commissioner.
The big question
“How might business change if Nature had a Voice and a Vote?” Here’s the five minute explainer video that launched this idea in September 2022, featuring the lawyers who helped make it a reality: Lawyers for Nature and Earth Law Center.

If we’re to cause real, meaningful change, ideas such as this one need to be shared as openly as possible. It’s why we’re delighted that Bristol University Press, a not-for-profit university press dedicated to positive social causes, will be publishing ‘Nature’s Boardroom’ in January 2026.
Offering simple, practical tools for businesses, sustainability professionals and entrepreneurs, this book is a call to action for rethinking the relationship between business and the natural world.
